The funeral of the Reverend Charles Robertson LVO took place in Edinburgh on 25 July 2026. Charlie, as he was known, had been the Minister of the Canongate Church from 1978 to 2005 wherein is located the Roll of Honour of the City of Edinburgh Squadron of the Auxiliary Air Force. He was appointed Chaplain to The Queen in Scotland and invested as a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty. Charlie was the Honorary Padre of No 2 (City of Edinburgh) Maritime Headquarters Unit from 1987 to 1999 and continued in this role with the reformation of No 603 Squadron in 1999.
As a child, Charlie was raised as an orphan in Quarrier’s Home in Bridge of Weir. Renfrewshire.
He is well remembered by the Royal Auxiliary Air Force for blessing the first Sovereign’s Colour at the parade held at RAF Benson in 1988.
