92 Sqn was a fighter Sqn formed in 1940 which acquitted itself with distinction in the Battle of Britain. Equipped with Hurricanes, its first Commanding Officer was Sqn Ldr Roger Bushell, an Auxiliary officer who joined 601 (County of London) Sqn in 1932. On posting to the newly formed 92 Sqn, he took a number of 601 Sqn’s pilots with him.
Roger Bushell is especially remembered for being the leader of the Great Escape, details of which can be seen at the vignette in this website.
