Senior Aircraftman Andrew Venning

SAC Andy Venning joined 4624 Sqn in January 2007. As an ex-Regular with 9 years’ service, he brought a wealth of valuable experience with him that he used to great effect within his flight. His professionalism, enthusiasm, and affable nature made him not only a highly respected colleague but also a much-loved friend to many across both the Regular and Reserve forces.

Enthusiastic and dedicated, Andy was mobilised twice during his 10 years of reserve service,  both times to Afghanistan supporting Operation HERRICK. This was in addition to a tour in the Falklands that he completed while serving in the Regular force. He also often supported 1 Air Mobility Wing both on the Air Movements Sqn at Brize Norton and globally on task with the UK Mobile Air Movements sqn.

One of his last Sqn detachments was to the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2017, where his Flight provided the totality of the air and surface movements task – a task that he not only thoroughly enjoyed, but at which he excelled.

On 19 August 2017, Andy collapsed suddenly at the Sqn while attending his flights weekend training. he was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where 2 days later he very sadly died. Andy left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to serve alongside him. His contributions to the Squadron and the wider Logistics Movement Family were invaluable, and his absence is still deeply felt today by those who had the pleasure to know him.
