RAuxAF 100 – Locomotive Naming Ceremony Part 1

In early 2023, a Trustee of the RAuxAF Foundation, Squadron Leader Alfie Hall, worked in partnership with the Nene Valley Railway and the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society to rename the steam engine “92 Squadron” as “Royal Auxiliary Air Force”.  On 27th May, the locomotive’s name was formally unveiled by Air Vice-Marshal Ranald Munro and the Honorary Air Commodores of 504 (County of Squadron and 7644 (Media) Squadron.

On Saturday 25 May, 2024, the locomotive will haul a special train named the “Auxiliary Aviator” for which a special headboard has been commissioned. Serving and retired Auxiliaries will be invited as guests of the Foundation to join a scheduled service on the train from the Wansford station.  A programme for the day will be published in due course.
