On 6th October, the Royal Scots Club in Edinburgh hosted a formal Dinner to commemorate the Centenary of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force (RAuxAF) and to support the activities of the RAuxAF Foundation. The event was the brainchild of Squadron Leader (Retd) Graeme Lyall, a member of the Club and former Commanding Officer of 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron. His Grace The Duke of Hamilton was the Guest of Honour, and attendees included serving and retired members and friends of the Force and the Foundation as well as members and friends of the Royal Scots Club (many with military connections). Major Jan McClean, (Retd), a former Territorial Army Officer and a Club member, presided. After the excellent meal and loyal toasts,, Group Captain Bob Kemp (Retd), a Foundation Trustee and former Inspector, spoke about the history of the RAuxAF highlighting the outstanding roles played by the Scottish RAuxAF Squadrons in both peace and war.
After the Dinner, almost £2,000 was raised for the Foundation from a silent auction, a raffle and donations. The evening continued into the early hours in an adjacent ante-room.
The RAuxAF Foundation is very grateful to the Royal Scots Club not only for organising such an enjoyable and memorable evening but also for making a very generous donation to the Foundation’s coffers.
Our thanks also go to Ross Pratt, Digital Eagle from 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron for the excellent photos.
